SF 3 Day 2010 Summary

Opening Ceremonies were at the Cow Palace, yes Cow Palace, it's California! They're a little strange out there. LOL

After an emotional opening ceremony we started walking into town towards the Great Highway and the Pacific Ocean. San Fran is hilly!!! See? This is the type of terrain we had in the city.

The San Jose bike cops were our route security and they were great. One of them had a radio strapped to the bike of his bike and he helped us power with music up the first few hills.

Day one and it was cool and cloudy/foggy. I kept waiting to see the ocean, it seemed to be sooooo far away. Darcy promised me the sun would come out at 10, but it didn't. Here we are lounging at lunch, stretching our legs and changing socks.

After lunch this was our conversation.

"Is that the ocean?"

"Is that the ocean?"

We're at the ocean!!!!

And the sun came out! I finally was warm enough to take off my jacket. Yay!!! But soon? I wouldn't be happy about it being warmer, I would be wishing it was still cool. LOL

The building in that last pic is the Cliff House a local restaurant with a Camera Obscura outside.

Can you see the Pink Warriors walking along the tree line?

The Golden Gate bridge! I must be close to camp now. We're walking along the Coastal Trail along the coast line towards the bridge. Right after this pic was taken I heard a rumor, a scary rumor... something about 150 stairs. *shiver*

It wasn't a rumor!!! This was tough, and there were 150 going back down too. After walking 18 or so miles, this was tough.

But not too long on the other side? Camp!!!!

A few of the San Jose cops were our entertainment that night, they had to shake ping pong balls out of kleenix boxes strapped to them.

Day One came to a close after a wonderful supper and hot shower. We had to be up early for Day Two. We were also told it would be cold so layer up for our walk across the bridge. At the first pit stop on the other side we could leave our top layer to don again to walk back across.

Day Two! We start out by walking across the Golden Gate Bridge. It was very foggy and cold. Very cold!  And yes those are my PJ pants.  I thought I could buy a pair of sweats at the 3Day store in the morning, but they weren’t open.

After the bridge we walked into beautiful (and quiet) Sausalito.  While the scenery was beautiful, we were in a quiet zone all day long.  It’s hard to stay upbeat and keep walking when it’s quiet.  (we also had to share the route with a bike race, they were not happy nor too nice about it)

Michelle and Carey were at the afternoon cheer station.  Yay for our Cheerleaders!!!!  I loved your cheesy balls. *giggle*

No clue what we’re doing here, but it had been a long quiet Day Two.  I think we’re getting a little punchy thinking about walking across that cold bridge again.

Day Three!  It’s raining. Wahhhhh Why must it always rain on my 3 Day?  Luckily it didn’t last too long.  Just while we were walking through the Presidio and the Tea Gardens.

I think Darcy was trying to really talk to this lion statute. shhhhhh We won’t tell her it’s not alive. ok?

This was the route for Day 3, up huge inclines over on flat than down a huge incline.  Rinse repeat.  My shins were burning by lunch time.

And Closing Ceremonies where we had another emotional ceremony and saluted the Survivors who walked with us.

The SF walk was beautiful and hard, and quiet.  I know I keep mentioning that…. but I was used to the sweep vans blaring music from speakers on top of them all along the route in Chicago.

I was happy to share the 3 Day with my Sis and hopefully she’s hooked now… well on crewing next year if not walking again.  *smooch*
