Opening ceremonies were wonderful! They were held at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. This year I was walking solo but not really alone. Thursday night before the walk I met up with 14 Boobs and a Nutcase for dinner and stayed with them in a local hotel. Yay for new 3 Day friends!!! Also some of the Coconut Strutters were walking MI, so I knew I would have other friendly faces along the route.<br />

The Opening Ceremonies are always emotional, this year was no different.<br />
And then we were off! Not far outside the ceremony I ran into Vanessa, Team Captain for the Coconut Strutters. She was stalking us this weekend, as she’s walking Atlanta in a few weeks.<br />

Oh yes and before I forget, yes I forgot my suspenders on Day 1. I swear my memory is going in my old age!<br />

Lisa a Coconut Strutter is in the middle pic. New this year was the Youth Corp, kids that wanted to volunteer and be part of the 3 Day but were too young to crew or walk. They were awesome! They were at Pit Stops and along the route cheering us on.<br />

Day 1 was done and I had my first 3 Day blister ever!!! I had no idea what to do for it, but Medical was awesome and helped me out. Not sure why I got a blister, blaming my age again. <br />

Day 2, the route opened at 6:40 and I started out again. I decided to carry a flag for awhile. I also remembered my suspenders today! <br />

One storm hit around 7 and everyone took cover under the dining tent. By 8 it was done and they said that should be it and it was. It didn’t rain again that night (wish I could say the same about tomorrow).<br />
Saturday night’s entertainment was a dance party, the Youth Corp got us all up on our feet. They also introduced themselves and said why they wanted to be there. Can you say tissues? *sniff*<br />

Day 3 and 60 miles closer to a cure! There are more pictures, I promise… I’m waiting for them to be emailed to me. Congratulations - you did it! You’ve reached your fundraising minimum for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®. Thank you for your determination, selflessness and commitment to the fight against breast cancer. Your efforts are making a significant difference in the continuing effort to find a cure. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Net proceeds from the 3-Day for the Cure fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 29 years has been impacted by a Susan G. Komen for the Cure® grant. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure® and the 3-Day for the Cure, we have invested more than $1.9 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. Because of you, lives are being saved. Because of you, we are one step closer to our goal of a world without breast cancer.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We understand the kind of hard work it takes to get to this point, so let your efforts keep working for you and the cause. Don’t stop now! Give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back - and then set a new goal. Keep talking with people about the 3-Day, about your experience fundraising and training, and about breast cancer. You will continue to raise awareness and funds in the weeks to come.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Please extend our thanks to your donors. Every dollar makes a difference. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Sincerely,<br />

They're a little strange out there. LOL </p> <p><img alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDHOgwnwVI/AAAAAAAAAp4/RdxZTzVkfyg/s320/DSCN0143.JPG" border="0" /> <img alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDHP1P_FcI/AAAAAAAAAqA/ffS6aOo8DaI/s320/DSCN0146.JPG" border="0" /> <img alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDHQPcGqVI/AAAAAAAAAqI/efrAzqitEMg/s320/DSCN0148.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p>After an emotional opening ceremony we started walking into town towards the Great Highway and the Pacific Ocean. San Fran is hilly!!! See? This is the type of terrain we had in the city. </p> <p><img alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDInsAMK0I/AAAAAAAAAqY/oAfRw79Ql10/s320/DSCN0150.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p><img alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDImyngVWI/AAAAAAAAAqQ/dDLC9pR7XSk/s320/DSCN0149.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p>The San Jose bike cops were our route security and they were great. One of them had a radio strapped to the bike of his bike and he helped us power with music up the first few hills.</p> <p>Day one and it was cool and cloudy/foggy. I kept waiting to see the ocean, it seemed to be sooooo far away. Darcy promised me the sun would come out at 10, but it didn't. Here we are lounging at lunch, stretching our legs and changing socks.</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDKy47rTcI/AAAAAAAAAqg/aJFk_xi5IkM/s320/DSCN0153.JPG" border="0" /><img alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDKzp2LReI/AAAAAAAAAqo/daDR3vE_-8w/s320/DSCN0155.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p>After lunch this was our conversation. </p> <p>"Is that the ocean?" </p> <p><img alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDSLvzHnAI/AAAAAAAAAqw/6YRNBoTVm3U/s320/DSCN0156.JPG" border="0" /> </p> <p>"Is that the ocean?"<img alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDSm1QWsfI/AAAAAAAAArI/blgqsfpND0I/s320/DSCN0158.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p>We're at the ocean!!!! <img alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDSMQFGf4I/AAAAAAAAArA/vcRjzOdVQ9Y/s320/DSCN0159.JPG" border="0" /> </p> <p>And the sun came out! I finally was warm enough to take off my jacket. Yay!!! But soon? I wouldn't be happy about it being warmer, I would be wishing it was still cool. LOL </p> <p><img alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDbko9MXAI/AAAAAAAAAsw/vWegCpbeEsA/s320/DSCN0160.JPG" border="0" /> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDUwkuZmUI/AAAAAAAAArw/R56XhSw3dEA/s1600/DSCN0164.JPG"><img alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDUwkuZmUI/AAAAAAAAArw/R56XhSw3dEA/s200/DSCN0164.JPG" border="0" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDUwYcgVEI/AAAAAAAAAro/tFt3QG_8MFE/s1600/DSCN0163.JPG"><img alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDUwYcgVEI/AAAAAAAAAro/tFt3QG_8MFE/s200/DSCN0163.JPG" border="0" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDUvzfMAmI/AAAAAAAAArg/mMr7FnGlAto/s1600/DSCN0162.JPG"><img alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDUvzfMAmI/AAAAAAAAArg/mMr7FnGlAto/s200/DSCN0162.JPG" border="0" /></a></p> <p>The building in that last pic is the Cliff House a local restaurant with a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camera_obscura">Camera Obscura </a>outside. <img alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDXNfzeY0I/AAAAAAAAAr4/R0-MOx8mIDg/s320/DSCN0165.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p>Can you see the Pink Warriors walking along the tree line?</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDYVClqJqI/AAAAAAAAAsQ/nxxMIsz0Yc0/s320/DSCN0167.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p>The Golden Gate bridge! I must be close to camp now. We're walking along the Coastal Trail along the coast line towards the bridge. Right after this pic was taken I heard a rumor, a scary rumor... something about 150 stairs. *shiver* </p> <p><img alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDXOk7z5eI/AAAAAAAAAsI/NAirMbd65EA/s320/DSCN0168.JPG" border="0" /> </p> <p>It wasn't a rumor!!! This was tough, and there were 150 going back down too. After walking 18 or so miles, this was tough. </p> <p>But not too long on the other side? Camp!!!! <img alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDaIwo1IjI/AAAAAAAAAsg/0R4J1qr9DUo/s320/DSCN0170.JPG" border="0" /> </p> <p>A few of the San Jose cops were our entertainment that night, they had to shake ping pong balls out of kleenix boxes strapped to them. <img alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDaJaBFrMI/AAAAAAAAAso/RcbX7RD-L-c/s320/DSCN0172.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p>Day One came to a close after a wonderful supper and hot shower. We had to be up early for Day Two. We were also told it would be cold so layer up for our walk across the bridge. At the first pit stop on the other side we could leave our top layer to don again to walk back across. <img alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDek_qi_DI/AAAAAAAAAs4/IHBvYdqxEaM/s320/DSCN0174.JPG" border="0" /></p> <p>Day Two! We start out by walking across the Golden Gate Bridge. It was very foggy and cold. Very cold!  And yes those are my PJ pants.  I thought I could buy a pair of sweats at the 3Day store in the morning, but they weren’t open.  </p> <p><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDgIYLz7PI/AAAAAAAAAtI/KWGEqhwm6KA/s1600/DSCN0177.JPG"><img alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDgIYLz7PI/AAAAAAAAAtI/KWGEqhwm6KA/s200/DSCN0177.JPG" border="0" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDgII9PgdI/AAAAAAAAAtA/ro4RTeSXzAY/s1600/DSCN0176.JPG"><img alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLDgII9PgdI/AAAAAAAAAtA/ro4RTeSXzAY/s200/DSCN0176.JPG" border="0" /></a></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>After the bridge we walked into beautiful (and quiet) Sausalito.  While the scenery was beautiful, we were in a quiet zone all day long.  It’s hard to stay upbeat and keep walking when it’s quiet.  (we also had to share the route with a bike race, they were not happy nor too nice about it)</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2FJCJOkI/AAAAAAAAAtk/oFPbHL1a6xM/s1600-h/DSCN0178%5B7%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0178" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0178" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2GQmBLaI/AAAAAAAAAto/PaG5gfU9LLE/DSCN0178_thumb%5B5%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> </p> <p>Michelle and Carey were at the afternoon cheer station.  Yay for our Cheerleaders!!!!  I loved your cheesy balls. *giggle*</p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2HXssd0I/AAAAAAAAAts/tn5gw5YuU1M/s1600-h/DSCN0182%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0182" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0182" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2IedNJkI/AAAAAAAAAtw/RysjQqAXG94/DSCN0182_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2JCbabWI/AAAAAAAAAt0/KXjI2wPWuxw/s1600-h/DSCN0179%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0179" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0179" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2JosoQlI/AAAAAAAAAt4/c5PqEWU8M1k/DSCN0179_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2KN0cruI/AAAAAAAAAt8/0zabZ1_f_0I/s1600-h/DSCN0181%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0181" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0181" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2LUORANI/AAAAAAAAAuA/N2YVb_J-eUI/DSCN0181_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> </p> <p> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2NOlizyI/AAAAAAAAAuE/Ap0WPD3vq8I/s1600-h/DSCN0183%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0183" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0183" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2OHggLvI/AAAAAAAAAuI/-scNzDAcYXA/DSCN0183_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> </p> <p>No clue what we’re doing here, but it had been a long quiet Day Two.  I think we’re getting a little punchy thinking about walking across that cold bridge again.</p> <p>Day Three!  It’s raining. Wahhhhh Why must it always rain on my 3 Day?  Luckily it didn’t last too long.  Just while we were walking through the Presidio and the Tea Gardens.</p> <p>  <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2QyL2pbI/AAAAAAAAAuM/nekj7IRNZKk/s1600-h/DSCN0186%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0186" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0186" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2SLw_JtI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/e65w3WKQSmo/DSCN0186_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2TPyxtrI/AAAAAAAAAuU/zPylqCk-RMs/s1600-h/DSCN0187%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0187" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0187" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2T-kn1dI/AAAAAAAAAuY/MC6Y5Y-vs1s/DSCN0187_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2U4VIpEI/AAAAAAAAAuc/VWMYYG20FY8/s1600-h/DSCN0189%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0189" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0189" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2VlflzFI/AAAAAAAAAug/ghrCIiqdWzc/DSCN0189_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2WIqbftI/AAAAAAAAAuk/GSF0N67kquU/s1600-h/DSCN0184%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0184" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="244" alt="DSCN0184" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2WwglSvI/AAAAAAAAAuo/28zTzd7hpu0/DSCN0184_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" border="0" /></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2Y9eUnWI/AAAAAAAAAus/1giozQaH_3Y/s1600-h/DSCN0190%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0190" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0190" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2Za-ZemI/AAAAAAAAAuw/zxarEN6cwqU/DSCN0190_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> </p> <p>I think Darcy was trying to really talk to this lion statute. shhhhhh We won’t tell her it’s not alive. ok?</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2a7yXzvI/AAAAAAAAAu0/8c5DWy43iJs/s1600-h/DSCN0191%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0191" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0191" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2bo8Q-nI/AAAAAAAAAu4/9fldIy9sRfc/DSCN0191_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2dvpLX4I/AAAAAAAAAu8/0WXQLuy7Ccw/s1600-h/DSCN0192%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0192" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0192" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2exs7baI/AAAAAAAAAvA/TL95XEsqj8I/DSCN0192_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a> </p> <p>A couple shots from a pit stop on Day 3.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2gp9c-bI/AAAAAAAAAvE/apCb-Wstk6A/s1600-h/DSCN0185%5B2%5D.jpg"><img title="DSCN0185" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="DSCN0185" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_j8RLiyi0mhk/TLD2g9GFMWI/AAAAAAAAAvI/8MUJqgpIIjU/DSCN0185_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" border="0" /></a></p> <p>Not sure what this is? I hear you tend to over pack? LOL
<strong>Gearbag</strong>- use a big duffel bag on wheels, or something similiar. (wheels are heaven after walking 20 miles)
<ul><li>Gallon Ziploc bag with toilietries, shampoo, soap, medication, toothbrush, toothpaste, deordorant.</li><li>Shoes, pair two if you have them and slip on comfy shoes for around camp.</li><li>Gallon Ziploc bag with PJs, sweats, whatever you will wear at night.</li><li>Friday clothes packed in gallon ziploc bag.</li><li>Saturday clothes packed in gallon ziploc bag, pack an extra pair of socks in a snack bag to put in fannypack.</li><li>Sunday clothes packed in gallon ziploc bag, pack an extra pair of socks in a snack bag to put in fannypack.</li><li>Sleeping bag in compression bag.</li><li>Small pillow</li><li>ear plugs, in case our tent is near the potties</li><li>one clear shower curtain to use as tarp</li></ul><p>That is is, there is no electrical so no need for hair driers, curling irons... that stuff. Hopefully you signed up for towel service, so no need to pack towels.</p><p><strong>Fannypack</strong>-really this is a restock of any inventory used while training.</p><ul><li>blister block/body glide</li><li>blister bandaids, regular bandaids</li><li>aspirin/ibuprofen/aleve</li><li>rain poncho? -not a must as they hand them out at stops if it starts raining.</li><li>crystal light hydration.... only if you are like me and can't drink Gatorade.</li><li>lip balm</li><li>cash/debit card- in case you see something you have to have while walking</li><li>Friday's change of socks.</li><li>water bottle</li></ul><p>That's about it, unless you found you had to have something while training. No need to pack food or snacks. There will be soooo much food on route. They don't call it the 3 Day Buffet for nothing.</p><p>I'm not sure it's as important out in sunny (LOL) California to have everything packed in ziploc bags, but I found it was nice to be organized that way. If it does end up raining, you will be so glad everything is in plastic. </p>Breezyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14192361410715408690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2622951513737772615.post-9667667139884796972010-09-17T08:14:00.000-07:002010-09-17T08:17:46.291-07:00Route OverviewFriday:
It will begin with an emotional Opening Ceremony at the Cow Palace, where we'll gather together to pay tribute to the many women and men who have lost their battle with breast cancer, and honor the survivors. We'll remember the reason we're walking as we make our way west towards the Pacific Ocean. We will walk along beautiful Lake Merced and through Stern Grove on the way to lunch. The remainder of the day is filled with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and North Bay while walking along the Great Highway and through the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Be sure to enjoy the contemplation station, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, before entering camp.
Saturday:
On Saturday morning, we'll rise and shine, ready to hit the trail. This second day of walking will take us over the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and into picturesque Sausalito towards Mill Valley. Most of the route will be on the water’s edge and along the Sausalito / Mill Valley Bike Path. After enjoying lunch in Mill Valley, we will return through Sausalito and enjoy another breathtaking walk over the Golden Gate Bridge and into camp for another night of community, camaraderie and fun.
Sunday:
The final day of our journey will begin with a beautiful and peaceful morning walk through the Presidio. Upon entering the city, we will make our way through Golden Gate Park then through Cole Valley and the Castro to lunch. After lunch, we’ll pass through the heart of city and other neighborhoods including: Hayes Valley, Civic Center, Union Square, Chinatown, the Financial District, North Beach, and the Marina. Be sure not to miss the view of Lombard St., one of San Francisco’s unique calling cards, before descending upon our final destination, Marina Green, to join family and friends for a celebratory Closing Ceremony.
Carey!!!! We're going to the Castro for lunch! Wow Sunday sounds awesome, we're going to see lots.Breezyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14192361410715408690noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2622951513737772615.post-32506596093359560532010-09-16T11:43:00.000-07:002010-09-16T11:46:54.722-07:00Cheering Stations!Cheering StationsPublic cheering stations are a great way to show your support along the route to encourage walkers and let them know that you are with them every step of the way. Seeing familiar faces cheering them on can provide that extra burst of energy that gets them to take that next step or go the next mile. Create banners, hold up signs, bring some music and make some noise - anything to make them smile, get energized and keep walking.

Because of the family history of breast cancer I've had to get one every few years since 30. Now that I'm *gulp* turning 40 it goes to every year.
Have you had yours? Early detection is key in raising the odds that you will beat breast cancer.
By donating to the Susan G Komen for the Cure, you help others get those early detection mammograms. Please donate today.Breezyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14192361410715408690noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2622951513737772615.post-86549961461040621312010-08-01T10:08:00.000-07:002010-08-01T10:16:50.191-07:00NTA- Raffle and Jewelry SaleOn Wednesday I'm heading to the NTA in Marshville, WI. While training I've been paying attention to my speed a little more this year. When I walk by myself or with the Strutters on an offical training walk; I walk 4 miles an hour. If I walk with my fat dog Morgan (who thinks she MUST pee every 12th blade of grass or she won't find her back home or something) I walk 3.5 miles an hour.
Why is this good to know?
On the 3 Day the Pit Stops, Cheering Stations and Lunch are only open for so much time. If you're walking really slow you will get shuttled up to the front.
So Darcy? How fast are you walking? I want to make sure we're training at close to the same speed.Breezyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14192361410715408690noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2622951513737772615.post-60227501727428120912010-07-06T06:26:00.001-07:002010-07-06T06:28:27.425-07:00Donate $35 to celebrate me turning 35!!On Thursday I turn 35 and what better way to celebrate then to donate $35 for the Susan G. You have reached a huge milestone in your Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ journey: reaching half of the $2,300 fundraising minimum. You are so close to experiencing the event of a lifetime. You can do it!
Your fundraising efforts are invaluable. The dollars raised by dedicated women and men like you are making immense developments in the breast cancer movement.
Did you know that virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer has been touched by Susan G. Komen for the Cure®? That we've helped train more than 400 breast cancer researchers and funded more than 1,800 research projects over the past 27 years? That we've provided more money for breast cancer research and community health programs than any entity besides the U.S. government? Komen for the Cure's goal is to "energize science to find the cures.” We are proud of our contribution to some real victories:
More early detection - nearly 75 percent of women over 40 years old now receive regular mammograms, the single most effective tool for detecting breast cancer early (in 1982, less than 30 percent received a clinical exam).
More hope - the five-year survival rate for breast cancer, when caught early before it spreads beyond the breast, is now 98 percent (compared to 74 percent in 1982).
More research - the federal government now devotes more than $900 million each year to breast cancer research, treatment and prevention (compared to $30 million in 1982).
More survivors - America’s 2.5 million breast cancers survivors, the largest group of cancer survivors in the U.S., are a living testament to the power of society and science to save lives.
Thank you for your help in eradicating breast cancer. We couldn’t do it without you and applaud your efforts this far. We know you can meet your goal so we can reach our goal of a world without breast cancer. Keep up the great work!Breezyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14192361410715408690noreply@blogger.com0
